Have you ever envied those who have A. The money, B. The time, and C. The physical chops to go to Walt Disney World for a weekend to run in one of their amazing, themed running events? Well boy does The Mouse have a great offer for you!Registration for the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon opened up on January 3rd. You heard us right–a virtual half marathon. Also, Star Wars!
Here’s the deal: If you register, you have until March 31st, 2018 to complete your 13.1 miles. You track your progress using whatever method you like best, whether it’s a pedometer, FitBit, Apple Watch, whatever! When you’ve completed the half marathon, you submit your information at the finisher website, and you download your fancy finisher certificate. Perhaps the coolest thing is that you will also receive a commemorative medal for your accomplishment, below:
The best part about this being a virtual half marathon is that you don’t have to complete the 13.1 miles in one session. You can do as much or as little as you’d like as long as you hit the finishing distance before March 31st. Truly this is a marathon for a more civilized age. Or, rather, for people who aren’t able to make it to Florida for the actual events for whatever reason. If you’d like more information, or if you’re interested in registering, head on over the the event’s RunDisney page to get started!
I for one will definitely be taking on this challenge, and we think it’s wonderful to see Disney using Star Wars to advocate physical activity instead of just sitting on our bums watching the movies.
Does this sound like something you’d be interested in? Have you ever done any themes running events, at Disney or otherwise! Let us know about your experiences in the comments!
