LISTEN – Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer Discussion – Walking Carpet #25

The Walking Carpet crew unpacks a bunch of Star Wars news this week, chats about what The Last Jedi answered for us, and of course, the brand new Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer! Is 4 cups of coffee too much for Josiah?

Welcome to The Geekiverse’s all-Star Wars podcast, Walking Carpet! The show is now a monthly occurrence, with a bit of a new format. Thanks for sticking around, we think you’ll enjoy this episode.

To open the show, we discussed the news in the Star Wars universe that is making the rounds recently. A leak found on Reddit seems to reveal that the Blu-ray for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is going to be officially announced February 20. The cover is the same as the primary poster that was used for the movie’s promotion. If the releases for The Force Awakens & Rogue One are any indication, different retailers will probably get unique cases and packaging. We’ll round ’em up when that news hits. The picture from Reddit is notable in that this is the first 4K Blu-ray release of any Star Wars movie.

Elsewhere, the novelization for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is officially coming to stores and will be available for digital download on March 6. Written by Jason Fry, the book promises to expand on the movie’s lore. You can pre-order the book with free shipping here.

We introduced two new features to Walking Carpet. First, “This date in Star Wars history,” which correlates to the announcement of the anthology movies. Second, the Star Wars fact of the day, which also ties nicely into our main feature of the week:

Lucasfilm released a brief teaser for the movie on Sunday during the Super Bowl. Monday, we got the full trailer. We discussed everything we liked and disliked from the trailer, from the dark scope & tone, to the brief glimpses of the main actors & characters, to the era that the movie is set in. Solo: A Star Wars Story is set to release May 25, 2018 and stars Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany. If that wasn’t enough Star Wars goodness, our third and final segment of the episode was dedicated to answering some of the biggest questions from The Last Jedi. It’s now tradition that Jeff Pawlak & Josiah LeRoy created a list of 20 questions inside the theater but before the movie. Having done so for both TFA & RO, this edition proved to be the most divisive. Imagine how loaded Episode IX’s questions will be next year!

Join us by getting in the conversation on social media. What did you like or not like about the Solo Trailer? Did anything shock you from The Last Jedi? Thanks for listening and as always, may the Force be with you!
