Will someone please get this big walking carpet out of my way?
Today, Disney released the official synopsis of the upcoming movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story. From starwars.com:
“Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.”

We had a feeling that the origins of Han and Chewbacca’s friendship would be on display and it’s nice to get that confirmation. Don’t forget – in the Extended Universe, Han helped to free Chewbacca and the Wookies from Imperial enslavement on Chewie’s home planet of Kashyyyk. Additionally, we are betting big (see what we did there?) that Han ends up winning his beloved Millenium Falcon from Lando Calrissian. If leaked merchandise images are to be believed, the Falcon is shown in its pre-modified state, which would line up with Han’s Sabacc victory. In The Empire Strikes Back, Lando asks Han “what have you done to my ship?”
Perhaps of greatest importance is the fact that Disney still plans to release this movie on May 25, the 41st anniversary of A New Hope. With a major production shift happening last year as Ron Howard took over as director and no teaser trailer to date with just over 130 days until release, no one would be surprised if the movie was pushed out of the busy Summer season (Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, & The Incredibles 2 all release within a month of Solo). Alas, here we are. Star Wars fans are still getting their fill of The Last Jedi, which recently became the highest grossing movie of 2017.
Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Paul Bettany, and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca.
