Star Wars Celebration 2017

There’s no point in denying it: Star Wars fans are passionate. Fans from all over the world have been gathering for almost 20 years to celebrate the films, franchise, and fandom of Star Wars.

Star Wars Celebration first began in 1999 when Lucasfilm celebrated the opening of The Phantom Menace in Denver, Colorado. Since then, the celebration has been held sporadically all around the globe in celebration of the release of the subsequent sequels, as well as to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original film’s release. Over the last 20 years, there have been 12 celebrations in the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and this year, the celebration is coming to Orlando, Florida.

For those of us still heartbroken that Walt Disney World will no longer be holding Star Wars Weekends through May and June, the celebration is something to fill that void in our hearts. From April 13-16, Orlando will be transformed into a Star Wars geek’s dream come true (here’s looking at you, Josiah).

There will be an art show, a cosplay contest, nerdy speed dating, pin trading (my personal obsession), a droid smash derby, and even a tattoo booth! And this year, the celebration will also be commemorating the 40th anniversary of A New Hope‘s original release.

Special guests include actors such as Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Felicity Jones (Rogue Ones Jyn Erso) and Riz Ahmed (Rogue One‘s Bodhi Rook), super fans like Steve Sansweet, author of the Thrawn Trilogy, Timothy Zahn, and even the director of The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson.

Where the heck is Jyn and Lando?!

There won’t be another Star Wars Celebration until 2019, so for any Star Wars fan who happens to find themselves in Orlando the second week of April, be sure to snag your tickets ahead of time! Prices start at $35 per day or $70 pre-sale for the whole weekend.

Did you know there’s a new Thrawn book coming from Timothy Zahn?

What kind of panel would you host at Star Wars Celebration? Let us know in the comments! I’d have a cooking show where I’d teach you how to make the best blue milk in the galaxy.

Amanda Woomer-Limpert is one of the Geekiverse’s newest writers and still has all of her Star Wars action figures from her childhood. Her most prized possession? Speeder bike Leia who is proudly perched on her TV.
