September Blu-Ray releases are upon us, and we here at The Geekiverse have a list of some highly anticipated releases coming out this month. Some old, some new.

While some have called Bridesmaids the female Hangover, most have changed their tune since the release of Rough Night. A cast of diverse, talented, and funny women navigate their way through a bachelorette party gone wrong on the streets of Las Vegas. Scarlett Johansen in a comedy is always a delight, and this film has gotten generally positive reviews, so this would be great addition to anyone’s girls night collection.

The beloved, ridiculous children books came to life this summer on the big screen. Two imaginative boys spend their days writing comic books in their tree house. When their principal threatens to spilt them up, they devise a plan to convince him into thinking he’s a silly super hero named Captain Underpants. Critics generally approved of the film, and it did decently at the box office, so if you have yet to check it out with your family, now is the time!
Release Date: September 19th
Nominated for 8 Academy Awards and winning 2, this sic-fi epic courtesy of Stephen Spielberg is back, 40 years after its original release. After being totally restored and a one week theatrical run, the film is being released 4k, as well as in a 4k 3-disc gift set including the original (restored) 1977 theatrical version, the 1980 special addition and the 1997 directors cut. This classic film born out of a time when the world was, quite frankly, obsessed with alien abduction and UFO’s, has become legendary, and finds itself on many “must see” lists of films. Film buffs and collectors will surely be adding this to their collection so they can view it in all its glory in 4k format.

Critics loved it, the public loved it, and now those of you who haven’t seen it have a chance to love it. Gal Gadot stars as Wonder Woman before she was Wonder Woman. At long last, we finally get to see the origins of this beloved yet rarely depicted super hero. Timely in its commentary on feminism and brilliant in its casting, this film is a must add to your blockbuster superhero collection before Justice League is released this November.
Something about really gets America going, decades after Jaws hit theaters. Some have called 47 Meters down the best attempt at a shark movie since Jaws itself. Starring Mandy Moore and Claire Holt, this thriller is the story of two women who’s day of shark diving takes a horrible turn and they are left to defend themselves against the deep. This film was a minor sleeper hit this summer, doing better than many suspected, and would be a fun way to talk yourself out of (or into, depending on how much of a daredevil you are) a tropical vacation.
