One would think that with all the exciting announcements made at D23 Expo just last month about new attractions at Epcot (Guardians of the Galaxy replacing Ellen’s Energy Adventure and a Ratatouille themed ride coming to the France pavilion), we would be fresh out of new rumors for the park. Well, think again my friends! We’ve got something brand new and juicy and trust us when we say it’s practically perfect in every way.
Rumor has it that a Mary Poppins themed attraction is coming to the United Kingdom pavilion at World Showcase in Epcot.
With only two “rides” in World Showcase–Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros in Mexico and Frozen Ever After in Norway (don’t even get me started on that one)–it’s safe to say that it is definitely lacking in the attractions department. Of course, it’s a prime place to meet characters you won’t find anywhere else in the parks, drink around the world, and (of course) learn about different cultures from all over the world. But that can only fill up so much of your time…
There have been other rumored films that this new attraction could supposedly be based on such as Alice in Wonderland (though we already have the tea cups at Magic Kingdom), Brave, and even something about the Loch Ness Monster. But Mary Poppins seems like the most logical one at the moment.
With the upcoming premiere of Mary Poppins Returns set to release on Christmas Day 2018, this new attraction would be the perfect thing to tie into the film and bring everyone’s favorite nanny back into the spotlight.
Of course, this is all still just a rumor but lately rumors about updates in the Disney parks have proven to be true. In April, we reported rumors on an all immersive Star Wars themed hotel coming to Walt Disney World and a Tron roller coaster coming to Tomorrowland, both of which were confirmed at D23 Expo 2017. So it seems like the odds are in our favor for this new addition to the UK pavilion.
How do you feel about this latest Disney news? Do you like these changes we’re seeing for Epcot? Would you support a Mary Poppins themed ride? Could we possibly get dancing penguin waiters?
Mary Poppins Returns stars Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel-Miranda and opens December 25, 2018.
Amanda Woomer-Limpert is the Geekiverse’s biggest Disney geek, a former Disney cast member, and a huge Bert fan. She’s in complete support of this new attraction but only if it features Bert and (of course) those fabulous carousel horses.
