The official trailer for the second installment of the Kingsman series was just released and it looks just as exciting as the first movie was.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle premieres on September 22, 2017 and the trailer promises that the movie will be filled with just as much action and over-the-top adventure as Kingsman: The Secret Service. The first installment was loosely based on the limited series, 6 issue run by Icon Comics titled The Secret Service. It featured lots of slow motion and freeze frames to showcase the, often brutal action scenes. The trailer for the upcoming second film appears to follow in that tradition. Have look and meet me on the other side.
One of the charms of the first film was the incredible cast featuring Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton, Sofia Boutella and the incredibly enjoyable villainry of Samuel L. Jackson. Who couldn’t help but laugh, every time he was onscreen spoofing James Bond’s over-the-top archnemeses? Kingsman: The Golden Circle promises more of the same A-list cast with Taron Egerton being joined by Halle Barry, Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, Mark Strong and Julianne Moore. There is also the little tease of the return of Colin Firth, as he shaves his eye-patch sporting face. How Harry Hart returns is still a mystery, and he certainly is not the immaculately dressed and coiffed Harry that we saw killed at the end of the first film. Maybe dying will do that to you.
One of the delightful elements was that the first film was very comic booky in its delivery, and the slow motion and freeze frame action made it look like panels from a comic book. The trailer implies that this trademark element will also return. It was a great decision on the part of director Matthew Vaughn in film number one, and it is a great decision to bring it back. Variety reported back in May that Vaughn had announced that Kingsman was planned as a trilogy and the 3rd film was already planned.
The plot of The Golden Circle also features Eggsy teaming up with the American counterpart of Kingsman, called Statesman, in the trailer represented by Channing Tatum in the terribly stereotypical and hilariously appropriate cowboy costume. Certainly there are some great possibilities for both fun and off color humor with an Egerton/Tatum team-up
The first film grossed $414.4 million on an astonishingly low $81 million budget, considering the cast and the amount of CGI. The second film’s budget increased to $140 million.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters on September 22, 2017, and if the trailer can be believed, looks to deliver lots of the same great action and fun the made the first movie successful.
What’d you think of the trailer? What’d you think of the first film? Excited for the next installment? All just ho hum? Leave a comment below.
