Adi Shankar (The Grey, Dredd, Lone Survivor, A Walk Among the Tombstones) one of Hollywood’s youngest and most promising producers, announced yesterday that his next endeavor is an anime based on Ubisoft’s popular historical/action franchise, Assassin’s Creed.
News first broke when Shankar himself made the announcement on his Facebook page that Ubisoft requested his involvement. According to the post, the series will be all-new story.
Later in the day, Assassin’s Creed head of content Azaïzia Aymar confirmed the news and added his support for Shankar, saying that Shankar “is super passionate and a real fan of the franchise.”
Earlier this year, Aymar confirmed that an Assassin’s Creed TV series was in the works, but few expected it to be animated series. Last year, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated the company was collaborating with Netflix to do a series, leaving many to think that this Assassin’s Creed series was the project in question.
This isn’t Shankar’s first rodeo when it comes to adapting long-running video game franchises into animation. He served as the executive producer behind Netflix’s Castlevania series, an anime targeted toward adults that debuts this Friday, July 7th.
The announcement comes mere weeks after the world reveal at E3 2017 of Assassin’s Creed: Origins, the next video game entry by Ubisoft. Origins is set in Ancient Egypt, and is scheduled for an October release for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
To say the least, it’s been an exciting month for Assassin’s Creed fans. Are you looking forward to the prospect of this upcoming anime? What time period would you like to see it set in? Let us know in the comments below!
