In case you missed it, the first trailer for the highly anticipated Dark Tower movie has been released! Check it out!
The Dark Tower, which will be coming out this summer, stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, a gunslinger from the land of Gilead, who is on a mission to find and protect the titular tower. Matthew McConaughey stars opposite Elba as The Man in Black, Roland’s nemesis. Joining these two is young Tom Taylor, who plays Jake Chambers–a boy who found himself stuck in a new world.
The Dark Tower film is based on the book series of the same name, written by Stephen King. Determined by some to be his magnum opus, The Dark Tower was a mash-up of multiple genres, including horror, science fiction, fantasy, and western. Originally spanning seven books, the series has since been supplemented with another novel and numerous comic books, all of which help tell more of Roland’s backstory. Perhaps the most interesting thing about these books is how they tie in with King’s over novels. For example, The Man in Black makes prominent appearances in Eyes of the Dragon and The Stand, and Father Callahan from ‘Salem’s Lot becomes a featured character later in the series.
It’s obvious from this trailer that there are some differences between King’s first Dark Tower novel, The Gunslinger, and the first movie, but what do you think? If you’ve read the books, are you dreading this release, or are you excited? If you’re new to the series, how does it look with a fresh pair of peepers? Let us know in the comments!
Andrew is a hardcore Dark Tower fan who has been looking forward to the film version of the series since he first started reading it, though he hopes this goes more the way of The Green Mile and less the way of 11/22/63.
