Guardians of the Galaxy Coming to a Disney Park Near You

It may be one of the most debated additions coming to the Disney Parks since Frozen was added to the Norway pavilion at EPCOT, but like it or not, Guardians of the Galaxy—Mission: BREAKOUT! is coming to Disney’s California Adventure this summer.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has been haunting Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris Guests for years now. For thrill seekers, The Tower of Terror has been a sought after destination and over the years the spooky tale of five hotel guests disappearing from their elevator on Halloween night in 1939 has become a staple in the Disney Parks.

Despite The Tower of Terror’s popularity in each of the theme parks that it can be found in (with queues sometimes reaching more than three hours) and the niche that The Twilight Zone seemed to find within the parks, Disney announced at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, 2016 that The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror would be closing its doors for good to make way for the first (American based) Marvel attraction at a Disney Park.

The news was certainly controversial. For Marvel fans that have been waiting for characters and attractions to appear in the parks since Disney got the rights back in 2009, they were ecstatic (to say the least). Fans of the original ride and purist “Disnerds” were a bit harder to convince. But despite  online petitions and angry Facebook posts, Disney closed The Tower of Terror for good on January 3, 2017 and announced the official debut of Mission: BREAKOUT! for May 27th of this year.

Lots of exciting new additions for Marvel fans are joining Mission:BREAKOUT! in the Summer of Heroes event which runs from May 27th (the opening day for BREAKOUT!) to September 10th at Disney’s California Adventure. Apart from Mission: BREAKOUT! Guests will be able to take part in Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off!, Avengers Training Initiative, and come face to face with some new characters like Spider-Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and even Groot!

And for those of you who aren’t as in love with the Marvel Universe as the rest of us: don’t worry. This Marvel takeover is only happening at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim; the other Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attractions remain just as spooky and nostalgic as you remember and there are no plans to change them (yet).

What do you think? Are you excited for the Marvel-centric changes coming to the Disney Parks? Do you say Yay or Nay to Mission: BREAKOUT!? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
